I started this blog nearly two years ago. It was what I thought (at the time) would be an exercise in writing that might get the words flowing on my PhD. I was hoping that by doing some writing in an area I was passionate about, it might transfer to an area that I was (at the time) less than passionate about. It didn’t. I lived. I learned.
I kept things anonymous at first. There’s no mysterious, sinister or glamourous motive. I have a (small) presence on the web in my professional capacity and an unusual name, so I wanted to be able to blog at will, without it cluttering up any Googling that potential clients or employers might do.
Then something unexpected happened. I connected with people! My interactions/followings/followers via Twitter happened organically, so I couldn’t event tell you how I came across people. But I did. Really nice people. A couple of them I even shared a baby due date with and have shared our children’s journey. One I have met in real life. Another noticed I was “missing in action” during a stressful interstate move. And too many others to mention.
Anyway, I feel like I am holding back on the friendship with my anonymity. Eight months ago, I added my first name and a witness protection-style picture to my blog, and my name to my Twitter profile.
So here’s me. Out of the pantry. Nice to meet you!
